Qatar is the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and produces up to 77 million tonnes of gas each year. In April 2017, the Gulf state announced it was boosting output in the world's largest gas field - the "North Dome" - off Qatar's northern coast, which it shares with Iran. Gas has helped transform the emirate into one of the richest countries in the world, propelling its rise into a major regional player and helping Qatar fund huge infrastructure projects and host major events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup. So when four Arab states - Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt - severed diplomatic and trade relations with Qatar on June 5, cutting off land, sea and air links, there were concerns about the effect on Qatar's economy. How would the diplomatic rift between Qatar and some of its neighbours affect Qatar's economy, and Qatar's oil and gas industry in particular? Al Jazeera spoke to the president and CEO of state-run Qatar Petroleum, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, about the GCC crisis, Qatar's oil and gas industry, and the future of his company. - Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/

Black & Veatch is a global leader in natural gas processing, providing process design, engineering, procurement and construction services. Learn more at http://bv.com. TRANSCRIPT: [Announcer] NATURAL GAS PLAYS A CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE WORLD'S SUPPLY OF ENERGY. AS A GLOBAL LEADER IN ALL ASPECTS OF NATURAL GAS PROCESSING, BLACK & VEATCH PROVIDES PROCESS DESIGN AND ENGINEERING, PROCUREMENT AND CONSTRUCTION SERVICES. [Kevin Currence] Black & Veatch has extensive experience in a wide range of processes, be it open art, third party technologies, as well as our own Black & Veatch-developed proprietary processes. That breadth of knowledge gives us the ability to analyze each client's situation, each project, and come up with the right flow sheet and optimize it for their application. [Announcer] SINCE MANY OF OUR PROFESSIONALS HAVE EXPERIENCE WORKING IN ORGANIZATIONS SIMILAR TO OUR CLIENTS, THEY UNDERSTAND THE BUSINESS DRIVERS AND THE FACILITY'S GOALS. WITH MORE THAN THREE THOUSAND ASSIGNMENTS IN OVER 40 COUNTRIES, WE DELIVER SAFE AND RELIABLE SOLUTIONS TO OUR CLIENTS. [Aubin Rudder] Black & Veatch has a depth of experience with many international partners, but where it's special is, there is a valuable history with Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited. We've been able to improve at each stage of our projects and we've been able to improve one project beyond the achievements of the other. I think that what I value most about working with Black & Veatch is the relationships we build with the engineering team. [Lydia Lee Chong] Black & Veatch brought their value of their expertise, their knowledge, their experience, in engineering, procurement, and construction. They were able to design the plant very efficiently, meeting all the standards that we requested and more. The project diversified our product slate so before we had mixed butane and after the completion of the project, we can now increase our product ... to isobutane, mixed butane, as well as normal butane. And it gives us the flexibility to split and sell different products and put different plans downstream. So it actually grows and expands the business. [Announcer] FROM GAS TREATING TO SULPHUR RECOVERY, NGL RECOVERY TO FRACTIONATION, BLACK & VEATCH UNDERSTANDS THE IMPACT OF DECISIONS ON OTHER PARTS OF THE PLANT AND TO THE BOTTOM LINE. [Dan McCartney] Black & Veatch has something to offer all along the value chain for gas. So we can do just a little part of it, we can do the whole thing, we can do any mix that people really need in the way of services. [Announcer] AS AN INDUSTRY TECHNOLOGY LEADER, BLACK & VEATCH HOLDS NUMEROUS PATENTS. OUR PROPRIETARY PRICO TECHNOLOGY WAS PIONEERED FOR LIQUEFACTION OF NATURAL GAS OVER 40 YEARS AGO. WE'VE CONTINUED TO ENHANCE THIS UNIQUE PROCESS TO GIVE OUR CLIENTS THE LOWEST OPERATING COSTS AS WELL AS THE LOWEST EQUIPMENT COUNT. [Kevin Currence] We've taken our experience with single-mixed refrigerant processes and incorporated that into our new technology, PRICO C2. Using the mixed refrigerant, we're able to get much colder than a conventional refrigeration system, which allows us to get the recoveries in a gas processing facility without the need for as much, or perhaps any, feed compression, so that we can give a much lower capital and operating expense for our client. [Announcer] BLACK & VEATCH'S NEW TECHNOLOGY, CALLED LPG PLUS, EXTENDS THE OPERATING RANGE OF LPG RECOVERY. THIS TECHNOLOGY EXPANDS OUR CAPABILITIES AND OFFERS SOLUTIONS TO OUR CLIENTS WITH NATURAL GAS OR OFF-GAS STREAMS, HIGH- OR LOW-PRESSURE FEED GASES, AS WELL AS RICH OR LEAN GASES. [Kevin Currence] LPG Plus compared to conventional turbo expander technologies can represent significant savings in compression horsepower. [Announcer] YOU CAN COUNT ON US TO TAILOR THE RIGHT SOLUTION TO MEET YOUR GOALS. WE'LL DELIVER SAFELY, ON BUDGET AND ON SCHEDULE. [Kevin Currence] At Black & Veatch, we have the professionals, we have the innovative solutions, and we love a challenge.

The project is a powerful step forward in Qatar’s overall industrial and human development, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. Demand for energy in Qatar will grow over the next decade as a new airport and seaport are built, as major initiatives are completed in the transport, health and education sectors, and as new facilities are built for the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
