This is the latest documentary on Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLC), the base for all onshore operations to support the development and utilization of Qatar's North Field gas assets. Located 80 kilometres northeast of Doha, RLC commenced operations in 1996 and has evolved since then into a world-class industrial city, facilitating the needs of the most technologically sophisticated natural gas-based industries. RLC provides industries with land, roads and common corridors for pipelines, and other utilities' structures. The Port of Ras Laffan, which is the largest LNG export facility in the world, facilitates the marine export of all the hydrocarbons and sulphur produced by industries, the import of general cargo, and the support of offshore production operations in the North Field.
Pioneering the natural gas industry in Qatar, Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) – Qatar’s first and premier LNG Company – was established on 1 November 1984 to own and operate a world-class onshore LNG plant utilising natural gas from Qatar’s North Field, and to market and export LNG and associated products worldwide. Qatar, currently the world's number one exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), recently announced that it will increase production from 77 million tonnes of natural gas to 100 million tonnes a year by 2024. With proven gas reserves of almost 26 trillion cubic metres, the peninsula is home to the world's third-largest reserves of gas after Russia and Iran.
